"This was a wonderful Orton-Gillingham workshop. What an amazing group of teachers with so much expertise. I can't wait to get back to my school and start putting to use all of my new knowledge."

Greenhills' Orton-Gillingham workshops attract participants from across the state, these teachers from Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington, the Advanced Diagnostic Reading Center in Pinehurst, and Greensboro.

The International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council, Inc., (IMSLEC) began as a committee of the Board of The International Orton Dyslexia Society (now the Dyslexia Association). Its role was to define a model for teacher training. After study, those individuals on the Council decided that it would be best to incorporate as a separate accrediting body.  After 3 years of accrediting programs an organization may apply to the U.S. Department of Education for recognition as an accrediting body.  This was the route that the Council has taken.

IMSLEC accredits training programs and the program certifies individuals.  Accreditation is offered by IMSLEC for the Teaching Level, Instructor of Teaching Level, Therapy Level, and Instructor of Therapy Level. In May 2010, there were 35 accredited teacher training programs in the United States.  The teacher training  program at Greenhills School is accredited at the Teaching Level and Instructor of Teaching Level.

The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators certifies individuals and accredits teacher training programs and schools.  The Academy offers individuals membership at the Subscriber, Associate, Certified, and Fellow level. It has accredited 11 training programs nationwide to certify their own graduates at these levels. Greenhills is an accredited Teacher Training site for the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators for the Subscriber and Associate Level memberships. Greenhills may recommend "fast-track" membership for the Associate level membership, and offer training for the Certified and Fellow levels."

Marjory Roth, Head of Greenhills School, is a Fellow. Fellows are approved to train teachers. Membership levels in AOGPE have different privileges. Associate level membership allows a teacher to teach students under the direction of a Fellow.  Certified level membership allows an individual to teach independently.  Subscriber level membership is intended for administrators, parents and others who wish to gain basic knowledge about dyslexia and the educational approach to its remediation.

Each teacher of these one-to-one Orton-Gillingham lessons is completing an internship for certification by  AOGPE and our IMSLEC program. Teachers and tutors who are certified by these programs must meet degree requirements, practicum requirements with direct observations during one to three years of internship, and maintain their training with 30 hours of approved CEUs every 3 years.
